Bitcoin Creator Left His Thoughts on WikiLeaks Before He Vanished

While this story is a little old, it nonetheless has great relevance, eight years later. Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of Bitcoin had a few things to say on Wikileaks before he completely vanished.

In response to an article that was published on news portal PC World Mag on Wikileaks open to accepting donations in bitcoin, Nakamoto as the inventor obviously had an opinion on that. In 2010, when the article was first published he had said, “It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context. WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet’s nest, and the swarm is headed towards us.”

At a glance, it seems like he was not very happy about bitcoin being associated with a known organization, which was determined to create chaos and uncertainty. Wikileaks has always been very upfront about uncovering states’ secrets, while holding on to its own. However, its existence has been very divisive since one faction comprise of fans who hail their exposes as ‘ground-breaking journalism’, while another faction thinks they are anarchist organization, sitting on a massive time bomb of information, that will collapse the world.

Providing context to the cryptic quote a Redditor mindless_snail said on Thursday, when the thread was brought up again, “You completely left out the actual context, which is that Wikileaks announced that they were accepting Bitcoin donations because they were kicked off of every other major payment platform. Wikileaks was all over the news for publishing confidential military documents and the first time many people ever heard of Bitcoin was when it was mentioned in association with Wikileaks.”

As users would be aware, Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks was arrested from the Ecuador Embassy on Thursday. At the time, the President of Ecuador had said that the country had fulfilled its obligations under the guidelines set by international laws, whereas Assange did not stick to his end of the bargain. He was asked, repeatedly not to intervene in the internal matters of other states and he violated the norms.

Wikileaks had presented a different narrative and had opened up its channels for donations to pour in from every quarter including bitcoin and ZCash.
